At Rosen Plaza, we’re experts in all things events, including how to best use your morning or afternoon when you have a bit of scheduled downtime.

Here’s our list of 8 Fun Things to Do with a Half Day in Orlando.

1. Visit Lake Eola

Experience the vibrant energy of downtown Orlando with a visit to Lake Eola Park.

In the heart of downtown, surrounded by a busy skyline, is a serene lake surrounded by a .9-mile walking path.

Experience the beauty of Orlando as you stroll around the lake admiring sculptures and charming park areas.

If you prefer, rent a swan boat and paddle out to the iconic Lake Eola Fountain amidst the park’s most famous residents – over 12 different species of swans.

On your way to the park, stop by Stasio’s Italian Deli & Market for incredible picnic-worthy sandwiches or enjoy a signature cocktail and a juicy burger at The Stubborn Mule just a few blocks from the lake.

2. Catch a Show

If you find yourself with an afternoon and evening free, head to downtown Orlando for some of our incredible entertainment.

Take in a show at the remarkable Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, home to multiple performance spaces including the acoustically perfect Steinmetz Hall.

The Dr. Phillips Center hosts Broadway touring productions, world-class musicians, famous comedians, and esteemed authors, speakers, and leaders.

If you’re looking for something more casual, check out SAK Comedy Lab for an evening of improv that will have you laughing all night long.

3. Outlet Mall Shopping

Orlando is home to several extraordinary outlet malls that are perfect for spending a few hours shopping.

At Orlando International Premium Outlets, you can shop stores like Michael Kors Outlet, Old Navy Outlet, New Balance Factory Store, Nike Factory Store, and so many others.

Orlando Vineland Premium Outlets has more luxury brand stores, including Burberry, Ferragamo, Gucci, Prada, and Versace.

Both outlet malls are great for finding deals and discounts on everything from clothing and shoes to perfume and accessories.

4. Explore Winter Park

Winter Park is a popular, upscale neighborhood of Orlando that boasts an abundance of charm.

Its independent shops, award-winning restaurants, and overall ambiance are ideal for a half-day adventure.

Start by indulging in something sweet at AJ Chocolate House on one end of the famed Park Avenue, and meander your way past stores like Adjectives Market, Writers Block Bookstore, and Tugboat & the Bird children’s boutique.

If you have time for a meal, check out the Italian-inspired Prato or the unique and flavorful Bosphorous Turkish Cuisine.

5. Squeeze in a Theme Park

Orlando is famous for its theme parks, so it’s only natural to feel a strong pull to visit one while you’re in town.

Currently, no park offers half-day ticket prices, so you’ll still need to shell out the big bucks for a half day of admission.

However, if you choose a park that’s open later, you can still make the most of your ticket by spending an afternoon and evening dining, riding, and enjoying every magical moment.

Theme park hours vary by season and day of the week, but parks that are reliably open later include Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and EPCOT.

Universal Orlando parks tend to close a little on the earlier side but typically stay open late on Saturdays.

Check their websites or your preferred theme park apps to see which parks are open late on your day of choice before buying your ticket.

6. Disney Springs

If you’re looking for theme park magic but without the admission ticket price, spend a half day wandering through Disney Springs.

This beautiful outdoor shopping complex is owned by Disney, so there are plenty of magical surprises in store.

Disney Springs is home to the largest collection of Disney merchandise, World of Disney, as well as a variety of satellite stores selling merch from franchises like Star Wars and Marvel.

In addition to Disney themed stores, you’ll also find name brands like vineyard vines, lululemon, MAC Cosmetics, Free People, and more.

After working up an appetite, settle in for an amazing meal at a restaurant like The Boathouse or Morimoto Asia.

7. Leu Gardens

If you’re hoping to take in some beautiful Florida nature while you’re in town, head to the Harry P. Leu Gardens.

This historic 50-acre botanical oasis is home to over 15,000 specimens. You’ll feel like you’re walking through paradise as you navigate themed gardens brimming with lush flora and pristine design.

From Feb. 1 through Sept. 3, 2025, you can enjoy the beautiful Origami in the Garden exhibit, showcasing colossal folded metal sculptures placed throughout the gardens.

After your time reveling in the greenery, head to the nearby trendy Mills 50 District for a bite to eat at popular local hotspots like Hawkers for Asian street food, Tori Tori for playful cocktails and Japanese pub food, or Pig Floyds Urban Barbacoa for freshly made barbecue.

8. Lounge by the Pool

There’s nothing better than spending a few extra hours laying in the sun and enjoying the beautiful Florida weather.

While you may feel pressure to go out and explore Orlando in your spare time, there’s nothing wrong with grabbing a lounge chair by the pool and killing some time splashing in the pool.

At Rosen Plaza, you can kick back by our seasonally heated swimming pool and whirlpool spa with a cocktail from ‘39 Poolside Bar & Grill for the perfect half-day of leisure.

Even better, our award-winning in-house steakhouse, Jack’s Place, is the perfect spot for a delicious dinner, meaning you can enjoy relaxation and indulgence without ever leaving your hotel.

Grab your sunglasses and your sunscreen; we’ll be waiting for you by the pool with a drink in hand.
