Rosen Hotels & Resorts first in Orlando and among the first in Florida to receive APEX Designation for Green Practices

Press Releases

ORLANDO (September 14, 2015) — Rosen Hotels & Resorts in Orlando announced today that the company’s three convention hotels have been awarded the coveted APEX designation for sustainable meetings standards. The APEX initiative is a partnership of the Convention Industry Council (CIC) and ASTM International and is the meetings industry’s first standards designation for environmentally sustainable meetings.

The 1501-room Rosen Shingle Creek, 1334-room Rosen Centre and 800-room Rosen Plaza are the first hotels in Central Florida to receive the coveted designation for venue and accommodations. To earn the certification, the company underwent a vigorous evaluation process, known as being one of the most detailed and comprehensive of its kind.

Rosen Hotels & Resorts is a dedicated leader of environmental practices in the hospitality industry. The company’s three convention hotels were the first in Central Florida and the state to receive the Florida Department of Environmental Protection Green Lodging Two Palm designation in 2007 and Three Palm designation in 2009 for remarkable conservation practices. In 2009, owner Harris Rosen received the Legacy Award, Sustainable Florida’s highest honor. Most recently in 2012, the company built its first LEED Certified building, the 12,000 square-foot Rosen Medical Center, a Place for Healing and Wellness.

“As a company, we’ve always been dedicated to environmentally sound practices and keenly focused on evaluating and improving our green standards whenever possible,” said DeeDee Baggitt, Director of Engineering & Facilities, Rosen Hotels & Resorts. “This spans to services that would benefit those hosting ‘green’ meetings at our hotels, which is why we are so honored and pleased to have obtained the APEX designation.”

Meeting planners looking for options for hosting an environmentally sustainable meeting or event will find a comprehensive menu of programs created by the company, and most importantly ways to measure results to show the impact a group’s efforts have made.

“Groups and meetings are as important to us as are our company’s green efforts — vital to how we evaluate our success as a business and as a global community partner,” said Leslie Menichini, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Rosen Hotels & Resorts. “Marrying our environmentally sustainable business philosophy to those groups who want to make a positive eco-impact at their meetings at our hotels is just another way we strive to exceed our clients’ expectations.”

ORLANDO (April 25, 2015) — A new Orlando nightspot opened tonight offering locals and visitors a fresh new evening haute club venue and meeting and event planners a flexible new indoor/outdoor space for up to 1,500 guests. The all-new Club 39 At The Plaza is inside the Rosen Plaza hotel on International Drive.

The 5,000-square foot Club 39 can accommodate 500 people indoors, or 1,500 guests when the event is extended to the patio and pool deck, called ‘39 Poolside Bar & Grill. Here, guests can enjoy lunch, happy hour, or dinner with balmy evening breezes, swaying palm trees and beautiful poolside scenery with their cocktails in hand while still enjoying the indoor nightlife scene. Two centrally located bars serve guests both indoors and outdoors.

Ideal for corporate events, wedding receptions, private parties and more, the new club provides groups with a dedicated, onsite daytime or evening event space already outfitted with all their audio/visual needs and already fully decorated and themed, with no build-outs or expensive rentals needed. All of the club’s monitors and screens can be used for corporate logos, presentations, slide shows, sporting events, music videos or a combination of these. The 30 x 13-foot stage can accommodate live bands or a deejay.

“Club 39 At The Plaza represents yet another way that Rosen Plaza is working to better entertain and serve our guests, whether they are locals coming for a night out on the town, leisure guests visiting Orlando for a few nights or those in town for a wedding, reunion, corporate meeting or convention,” said Victoria Hall, Director Sales & Marketing for Rosen Plaza. “This beautiful new club offers all our guests a classy and exciting place to spend an evening without ever leaving the hotel.”

Club 39 gets its name from the birth year of Rosen Hotels & Resorts President & COO, Harris Rosen. In fact, the club will be themed to various aspects of his life, from various milestones such as Graduating from Cornell University to purchasing his first hotel in June 1974. The bar menu features an Acapulco theme, a nod to Mr. Rosen’s days as the general manager of the Tres Vidas en La Playa Hotel in Acapulco, Mexico. Large groups can order from a special catering menu available for events in Rosen Plaza ballrooms and meeting space.

Orlando’s Rosen Plaza Hotel Announces New Kosher Catering Business To Open Fall 2015

Newly Constructed Orthodox Certified Kosher Kitchens Will Fill Need for High-Level Kosher Meals At Rosen Plaza and Greater Orlando Area

ORLANDO (Feb. 18, 2015) — Harris Rosen, President & COO of Rosen Hotels & Resorts, announced plans today to create a kosher catering service at Rosen Plaza hotel, one of three award-winning Rosen convention hotels and one of seven total Rosen properties in Orlando. The new venture will include the building of two new, certified orthodox kosher kitchens at the hotel. The new kitchens will open in fall 2015 to service individual guests and groups at Rosen Plaza, as well as to provide kosher catering for all seven Rosen Hotels & Resorts and catering for other groups, banquets and events in the vicinity of the Orange County Convention Center and greater Orlando.

To ensure that kosher law is followed at the new kitchens, Rosen Plaza has partnered with Rabbi Yosef Konikov, RCF-Orthodox Rabbinate of Central Florida, Inc. who will consult on all aspects of the new kitchens. The hotel also will employ a full-time mashgiach, a supervisor and single key holder of the kitchens, who will provide mashgiach temidi, or constant supervision, of all activities there.

“With the new catering service supported by the kosher kitchens at Rosen Plaza, we will fill a current void in the Orlando meetings and convention industry, particularly in the convention center area, for high-quality certified orthodox kosher meals,” said Rosen. “We aim to meet and exceed the needs of every guest at our hotels, so we are honored to be able to take the necessary steps to meet the needs of our visitors from the Jewish community.”

While there are several “kosher-style” establishments in Orlando that serve traditional Jewish foods, the kosher kitchens at Rosen Plaza will meet the strict requirements of certified orthodox kitchens in terms of equipment and types of foods served, as well as food sourcing, storage, handling, preparation, and more, according to kashrut, Jewish dietary law. One will feature glatt kosher, the highest level of kosher meat, and another Cholov Yisroel kosher, a designation for kosher milk and dairy. The kitchens will be newly constructed within Rosen Plaza and will feature only brand new materials including appliances, equipment and utensils.

“I applaud Mr. Rosen for his commitment to supporting this endeavor to meet the needs of Jewish visitors and the greater Orlando Jewish community,” said Rabbi Konikov. “This is a necessity that has been missing from our area until now, and I am happy to partner with Rosen Hotels & Resorts to ensure that they are able to create and maintain a high level kosher kitchen at Rosen Plaza.” Harris Rosen and the Harris Rosen Foundation have long been supporters of the Jewish community. In 2008, Rosen supplied $5.5 million to build the Jack & Lee Rosen Southwest Jewish Community Center in Orlando. In 2014, the Harris Rosen Foundation pledged $1 million in matching funds toward a capital campaign to substantially reduce debt on the Roth Family JCC of Greater Orlando. In addition, the Harris Rosen Foundation provides ongoing support to numerous community partners including the Holocaust Memorial Resource and Education Center of Florida, the Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando, Central Florida Hillel, Jewish Family Services of Greater Orlando and the Jewish National Fund
